NU UPSILON

HISTORY

The Nu Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded and chartered in Wilmington, DE on May 19, 1951, by 12 brothers who had been initiated into the organization at the undergraduate level. Their purpose was to continue their brotherhood and the rich history of the fraternity by organizing a graduate chapter in the Wilmington area where several brothers lived.

The twelve charter members of Nu Upsilon were active in all aspects of the community including politics, social service, education, law, medicine, business, and government.  Their efforts to become active in the Wilmington, Delaware community were realized and laid the foundation for what is now a premier Greek fraternity chapter in the Wilmington and Greater New Castle, Delaware community.

Nu Upsilon Chapter’s mission is to be viewed as a leader in the community by making a substantial difference through Service and Social Actions; Scholarship; and Brotherhood. Since its inception, Nu Upsilon has continued to focus on “uplifting” members of the community in numerous ways. The Brothers of Nu Upsilon have been instrumental in organizing and implementing mentoring/enrichment programs for young people; participating in health-related activities such as health fairs, and a variety of health-related runs, walks, and the like. Nu Upsilon has implemented scholarship programs for high school students who desire to pursue higher education.

The chapter strives to help meet the basic needs of the less fortunate by feeding the homeless and donating clothes, shoes, etc. to shelters and other outfits that service the needy. Since its inception, Nu Upsilon has been active in Delaware Adopt-a-Highway community beautification programs as well as Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence, serving as role models through its participation in reading and awards programs at schools in New Castle County, Delaware.
